Harry Potter Carnival #36
Welcome to the 36th Harry Potter Carnival!
J.K. Rowling
HP fans in Georgia have been awaiting the Georgia DOE’s final word on the HP books in school libraries. As expected, the DOE supported Gwinnett County Public Schools’ contention that the books should remain on the shelves. Laura Mallory, the parent who was fighting to remove the books because she felt they promoted witchcraft (she hasn’t read them), has indicated she may appeal the decision yet again. Her recourse at this point is the Gwinnett County court system. I think it might be a good idea for her to decide that this fruitless cause of hers is taking up a lot of her time, which she could be using to look after those children of hers about which she professes so much concern, but given her history, I don’t hold out much hope for that.

If you haven’t checked out Marta’s fanart in a while, take a moment to do so. She’s amazing:

Theories and Speculation
What exactly do we know about HP7? It’s been a while since I checked HPL’s page for this book. What about you? My own speculation — if Harry and the gang do go back to Hogwarts (and I hope they do), Hermione is a shoo-in for Head Girl, but I don’t think Ron will be Head Boy.
Hermione’s Library
When’s the last time you checked out Wikipedia’s Harry Potter Portal? They can use your help; find out how.
Random Fandom
Tanaqui deconstructs a phenomenon that any Reading, Language Arts, or Literature teacher can verify — Harry Potter has had a huge impact on literacy in the last ten years.
Just For Fun
Harry Potter and Star Wars: eerie parallels? You be the judge:

To submit Potterica for the next carnival, use my carnival submission form. Please note the category for which it should be considered. Deadline is 10:00 P.M. Friday, December 29. I could especially use submissions for fan art!
