Comments

Mon ,09/06/2008

I wish it didn’t have to be this way, but I am permanently closing comments on this blog.  I don’t receive many comments, but the few I do receive, particularly lately, have done nothing to contribute to conversation about the posts and frankly have me wondering about the future of the human race.

Potter Wiki

Sat ,28/10/2006

Some time ago, at the suggestion of my brother-in-law, I created a Harry Potter wiki.  Since that time, I’ve done absolutely nothing with it.  Furthermore, I am fairly certain I will never do anything with it.  Frankly, the Harry Potter Lexicon is the most thorough encyclopedic source for all things Potter on the Internet, and Mugglenet’s new encyclopedia isn’t far behind.  I don’t know what my wiki would add, especially since I don’t really have time for it.  I think a Potter wiki is a good idea, and perhaps in other hands, a great Potter wiki will come to fruition.

Easter

Sat ,15/04/2006

I wanted to let everyone who happens by looking for the carnival know I goofed and should have let you know it wouldn’t appear this week due to Easter holidays. I’m out of town and won’t have time to really pull together something good.

Happy Easter, if you celebrate it.  Happy Passover!

OK, Riceman, I have created a PotterWiki.  Access is available from the sidebar to the right.

Now what?

Site Restored

Sun ,05/03/2006

OK, looks like I have all the entries uploaded. There were a few I elected not to do because they were posts about previous site problems or were in some other way insignificant. I manually uploaded posts dating back to October, when I moved this blog over to my own domain. The export file from Movable Type prior to October was still extant, so I used that to upload the rest. If you see any broken links or images, please let me know so I can fix them.

We should have a carnival posted again here, soon.

I am probably going to create a wiki. What for? I don’t know. I guess we’ll see. I could create a message board, I suppose, but it scares me to think how dormant it would be!

Restoration Continued

Sat ,04/03/2006

I’ve been working on restoring the Pensieve today. The good news is that I have all the posts (of course, that may be bad news, depending on your perspective). The bad news is that I’m not technologically proficient enough to figure out how to convert the HTML files into a Movable Type export file so I can import them into Word Press. It looks like I’ll need to upload the posts manually. Not my first choice, but better than losing everything I’ve written for the last two years.

Keep watching this space; I will be adding posts as I am able.

In the meantime, I have a contest. I don’t flatter myself that I have a lot of readers, and certainly I lost some after my host went kaput. However, those of you that happen by here are invited to create a banner that matches the color scheme. You can submit as many entries as you wish. The winner will receive a $25 gift certificate to Amazon or Barnes and Noble (your choice!). Just e-mail me your submission (remove (AT) and replace with @) and watch this space for developments.

Restoring the Pensieve

Sat ,18/02/2006

I meant to work on restoring the Pensieve today, but I didn’t have time.  It looks like it might be a while before this site looked like it used to.  However, I do have the images stored.  I will need to tweak the template now that I am using Word Press.  I probably have the old template somewhere, but it was Movable Type template.

I didn’t want you all to think I was abandoning this project.  I am not too worried about inconveniencing readers, as my site statistics have not shown that I have many :) , but I did want the few of you who stop by on occasion to know I will be back in business soon, and I plan to relaunch the site with the next Harry Potter Carnival.  See you then.

To Trackback or Not to Trackback

Wed ,21/12/2005

Perhaps not as weighty a consideration as that of the famed Prince of Denmark… at any rate, I’ve decided not to trackback. That is, I have disabled trackbacks for my system. I will still trackback others’ sites when I link them, but on this end, allowing trackbacks has proved to be rather fruitless. First of all, most people who link me don’t trackback. That’s fine; I don’t really mind. Second, for some reason, my spam filter blocks anyone who tracksback with a Blogspot blog on Blogger, even legitimate trackbacks. Perhaps this is due to the large number of splogs on Blogger. Finally, of the countless trackbacks I’ve received, maybe five — website wide, not just for this blog — have been legitimate. Considering that in some form or another, parts of this website have been live for a year and a half, that’s not a stellar record. My spam filter manages to block or moderate all of the trackback spam, but I do have to spend a few minutes each day deleting trackback spam from my junk folder. Considering how few benefits I get out of it, I decided it simply wasn’t worth it to continue accepting trackbacks. I doubt it will inconvenience anyone, but I thought I’d annouce the change anyway.

New Domain

Mon ,17/10/2005

In order to make room for my husband to completely take over PlanetHuff.com, I will be moving this blog to a new domain. My blog will still be available here for one week, after which time I will set up a redirect script. You will now find Our Family History at http://www.huffenglish.com/pensieve/. Please update your bookmarks and bear with me, as some links may be broken for a while until I get things sorted out.

PlanetHuff Down

Mon ,26/09/2005

I’m sorry if you’ve been trying to access any pages on PlanetHuff.com (including this one) over the last couple of days. Tech support appears to have fixed the problem, but I don’t understand what it was — I thought I spoke Geek pretty well, but I’m obviously not fluent.

If you continue to have problems viewing the web sites on this domain, please contact either Steve or me by e-mail (remove the (AT) and replace with @).
